Rockwool RockPrime… High Performance Guaranteed

About Rockwool

Rockwool is the world's largest producer of stone wool insulation and the second largest insulation producer globally. The group has annual sales of Euro 1.8 billion and employs over 8,500 staff in more than 30 countries. It has 22 factories around the world including Pencoed, near Bridgend, South Wales.

Rockwool insulation is created from naturally occurring volcanic diabase rock with the ore smelted and spun into fibres to create a wide range of insulation materials, ranging from loft insulation rolls to impact-resistant roofing boards. It is also bonded to produce high performance panels.

Rockwool provides a four-in-one insulation solution, providing high grade thermal insulation, noise insulation, non-combustible and strong environmental credentials. This year alone, the insulation products produced by Rockwool will save more than 200 million tonnes of CO2. Rockwool insulation is also completely recyclable and can be re-smelted and spun into new stone wool insulation rolls and panels.

Why Rockwool?

  • It's made from a naturally renewable substance
  • Suitable for loft, roof and wall insulation in your home
  • Suitable for new or refurbished homes
  • Rockwool also offers excellent fire protection and acoustic insulation

Thermal Improvement

The table above on the right shows the U-values achieved when an attic is insulated to various depths with Rockwool RockPrime Blown Loft insulation.

Design and Insulation

At Ecowarm we have invested significantly in the most up-to-date machinery, which means the installation of Rockwool RockPrime is extremely fast, efficient and clean.

All the equipment and insulation arrives in a truck specifically designed for the job. Only a hose will pass through your home. A two-man team installs the insulation. Firstly, they will insulate all water tanks and pipes, put in place measuring gauges and mark out where all electrical cables are located; then one technician will stay in the truck to load the insulation into the hopper of the blowing machine, while the other will be in the attic directing the flow until the insulation is filled to the required depth. The main benefit of RockWool Rock Prime over conventional roll-out insulation is that it will fill every void there is in the old insulation: there are no joints through which heat can escape. And as the depth gauges allow you to clearly see the depth achieved, you can be sure you get exactly what you pay for.

No Damage

Rockwool RockPrime will not damage any metal components in the loft nor react with PVC cables.

Durability

Rockwool RockPrime is a durable material. When installed, it will not be affected by normal ventilation within the attic space. It will remain an effective insulant for the lifetime of the building.

Additional Information

4 Outstanding Benefits Of Rockwool EnergySaver Cavity Wall Insulation

Stone wool insulation, unlike some insulation materials provides 4 benefits in one product. It helps keep you warm, provides protection from noise and fire while the natural stone source material reduces the need to burn fossil fuels, reduces CO2 released into the environment and helps avoid climate change.

Exceptional Thermal Insulation

Is the old insulation in your loft much thinner than when first installed? Avoid this by using Rockwool insulation which is denser than ordinary lightweight insulation. This gives a tighter fit and doesn't slump or shrink with time, ensuring that it is effective for the lifetime of your home.

Sound Insulation

Because it is dense and close fitting, Rockwool is an exceptional sound insulation. Rockwool RockPrime can improve the sound insulation of a building substantially. 250mm of Rockwool RockPrime loft insulation with an isolated 12.5mm plaster slab results in a reduction of >50dB in airborne sound being achieved.

Sustainable Insulation

Installing Rockwool insulation reduces energy consumption. Made from a naturally-occurring raw material, Rockwool produces one of the most sustainable insulation products available.

Outstanding Fire Insulation

Fire is a major hazard in any home. Rockwool is made from rock and not glass or combustible plastic foam. It will not melt, burn or give off toxic fumes in a fire. Due to Rockwool RockPrime's non-combustible properties, the insulation can be installed up to and around the chimney breast. Rockwool RockPrime loft insulation achieves an A1 classification in accordance with BS EN13501-1, and is therefore noncombustible as defined by UK and Ireland building regulations.

Here's How Ecowarm Can Make Your Home

Here's a step-by-step guide showing how Ecowarm installs Rockwool RockPrime attic insulation.

  1. Preparation is key. Existing insulation is inspected to ensure it is installed correctly; vents are inspected to ensure they are clear; height gauges are stapled onto the joists to ensure the insulation will be filled to the required level.
  2. Pipes and tanks are insulated first. The walkway to the tank is installed and all main cables are labeled. The attic hatch is then insulated. At this point the attic itself is ready for insulation.
  3. Insulation is filled to the required level. All the equipment and insulation arrives in a truck specifically designed for the job. Only a hose will pass through your home. One technician will stay in the truck to load the insulation into the hopper of the blowing machine; the other will be in the attic directing the flow until the insulation is filled to the required depth.
  4. Insulation of your attic is now complete. The main benefit of RockWool RockPrime over conventional roll-out insulation is that it will fill every void there is in the old insulation: there are no joints through which heat can escape. As the depth gauges allow you to clearly see the depth achieved, you can be sure you get exactly what you pay for. You will have a warm, comfortable home.

Rockwool Rockprime Blown Loft Insulation Frequently Asked Questions

Rockwool Rockprime Blown Loft Insulation offers quick installation with minimum disturbance and can only be installed by approved installers such as Ecowarm. Here are some frequently asked questions about Rockwool Rockprime Blown Loft Insulation.

Answers

What are the current requirements for attic insulation?

Building Regulations require a U-Value of 16 in the attic. This is achieved through installing 270 millimeters of Rockwool RockPrime blown loft insulation.

Back To FAQ List
I already have about 4 inches of fiberglass in the attic. Can this be topped up?

Absolutely. The rock wool can be blown in on top of the existing insulation to an overall depth of 300mm(12 inches).

Back To FAQ List
I have recessed lighting in the attic. Can I cover these?

No. The recessed low-voltage lights must be sleeved. Our installation team can put isolation cylinders over the lights, which protects them from overheating.

Back To FAQ List
Should my water tank be lagged?

Yes. Ecowarm can supply and fit a specially designed lagging jacket which is fitted around and on top of the water tank.

Back To FAQ List
There is flooring in my attic. What should I do?

Prior to insulation, attic flooring should be taken up and stored goods removed from the attic. As most joists are about 5 inches high, and the required depth for the blown loft insulation is 12 inches, the flooring should not be re-fitted as compressing the Insulation renders it ineffective. Alternately the flooring should be raised 6 inches prior to installation and the insulation can then be blown under it.

Back To FAQ List
How long does the installation process take?

The average home attic can be completed in about two Hours.
